Sixteenth century documents and paintings show dogs resembling the Shih Tzu. Shih Tzu is claimed to have descended from crossing the Lhasa-Apso or Tibetan mountain dog and Pekingese, at Peking in the seventeenth century. The dogs were favorites of the Chinese royals and were thus prized that for years the Chinese refused to sell, trade, or give away any of the dogs. First time imported to England in nineteen thirty, once it had been discovered by English troopers throughout world war-II. In 1946 Shih Tzu was recognized in UK and 1969 American Kennel Club recognized the breed. Shih Tzu life expectancy is more than 15 years in general. Shih Tzu weight is 09 to 16 pounds and Height is from 09 inches to 11 inches.

The square muzzle is brief, with an inch or less from the tip of the nose to the defined stop. The nose is broad, with well-open nostrils. Nose, lips and eye rims are liver on liver colored dogs, blue on blue dogs and black on all other colors. The teeth meet in a very level or below bite. The large, spherical eyes are dark in color, however lighter on blue and liver dogs. The large, pendant, low-set ears droop down and are coated in plenteous hair. The back of Shih Tzu is level. The muscular legs are well-boned and straight. The high-set tail is carried over the rear and is covered in thick hair. Generally, dewclaws are removed. The double coat is thick and long, flowing down over the dog. The hair on top of the eyes is usually tied in a very topknot.
