Cairn Terrier Dog Breed

Cairn Terrier originated in the Highlands of Scotland in 1500s and known as one of ancient working dogs. Initially it was considered as Scottish Terrier or the West Highland White Terriers and it ends at the beginning of 1900s when breeders start to breed separately. Cairn Terrier also said to has relation with Sky Terrier. In outset it was used for hunting, watch dog. Tracking, agility, competitive obedience, go to ground trials and trick performer. This purebred dog publically presented in 1909 and got fame after 1930. Cairn Terriers were recognized by the Kennel Club of United Kingdom in 1910, and they reached in American Kennel Club recognized it in 1913 and keep it in terrier group. Cairn Terriers are hypoallergenic dogs and are low shedding. Cairn Terrier life expectancy is normally 12 to 15 years almost. Height male Cairn Terrier is 10 - 13 inches and females’ height is 9 - 12 inches. Weight of Male Cairn Terrier is 14 - 18 pounds and female’s weight is 13 - 17 pounds.
